Anne Chen

You can usually find me in the school office in the afternoon working on a computer or answering phones. On weekday mornings, I work for my husband’s business, James Chen Photographer. James is an internationally active, commercial/architectural photographer.

My husband and I also share a passion for two-wheeled vehicles and enjoy following Moto GP. However, my biggest passion is riding on two skinny tires without a motor; in other words, road cycling. I am the women’s rep for a local cycling club, Echelon Santa Barbara and a member of the B4T9 Women’s Cycling Team. So if you’re interested in riding on the road, please let me know.

Both of our children, Amanda and Andrew, attended SBMS and went through Rites of Passage as ninth graders. Andrew attended Lewis and Clark College as a Dean’s Scholar and has a degree in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in conservation biology. Currently, he works as a project manager and senior environmental planner for AMEC Environment & Infrastructure. Amanda, who was a Regent’s Scholar as an undergraduate at UCLA and has a Master’s in Global Studies from UCSB, works at the Clinton Global Initiative in Manhattan as a senior manager on the Global Health team.

Although I was born in Virginia, and have strong family ties to North Carolina, Santa Barbara is really my home. My family moved to Santa Barbara when I was 13 years old, and since then I have attended SB Jr High, SBHS, SBCC and UCSB. I’ve worked at SBMS for over 15 years now. I love math and computers and the Aubrey/ Maturin series, a wonderful sequence of nautical historical novels set during the Napoleonic wars.
