I currently work with students in the capacity of Trip staff, and work with bike monkeys at various times during the year. Some electives I’ve taught in the past are:
- Bicycle re-cycling - rebuilding old bikes with non-bike monkeys and then donating completed bikes to the Transition House.
- I have also taught some advanced bike monkey classes (i.e., disc brakes).
My son Kevin graduated from SBMS in 2006, is now a sophomore at San Marcos. Daughter Amy is a 7th grader at SBMS.
This is my 4th year as trip staff.

Strangely enough, I am a beauty school drop-out. However, as a consolation, I am the owner of Hazard's Cyclesport (actually I think it owns me). I've been involved with SBMS as a bike guy since 1992 (very little hands on). Then Kevin started here in 6th grade and all of a sudden I was very involved. Went on my first school trip a year later and said "Wow...I really understand the school now! I gotta start doing this more often. Next thing ya know I'm going on 3 trips a year plus doing as much at the school as my schedule allows.
I think I fit in at SBMS for a very good reason.....I was born on Leap Year, Feb 29th. That makes me 12-1/2 (Do the math...I'm 50). Being surrounded by this great group of kids allows me to look at the world again thru the eyes of a 12-1/2 year old! I'm involved in the whole experience as a responsible adult, but really seeing it as a kid again. I love this place! Watching the kids grow and change has made a great impression on me, and my own kids are better off from being students at SBMS.
