I have been teaching for over 13 years and feel so grateful to have what I believe is one of the best jobs in the world. One of my favorite things about being a teacher is that it requires me to continually and simultaneously be a student and to make valuable and meaningful connections.

I moved to Santa Barbara from the Bay Area; however, I am a Southern California native. We moved here to get back to the beach and a more laid back lifestyle and to be closer to my family. I grew up in LA and moved to Santa Cruz for college. While earning my BA in Literature, one of my professors approached me to see if I

would be interested in tutoring other college students in writing--I agreed to try, and this was the start of my teaching career. This job opened my eyes to the power of teaching and showed me that the relationships built when helping people find their voice and better their writing were like no other. This tutoring experience was my impetus for enrolling in the Master’s program in education at UCSC.

After graduating with my MA, my husband Dave and I moved to San Francisco and then to Oakland where my son Ethan was born in on New Year’s Eve in 2007 (interestingly, this has always been my favorite holiday and day of the year). Ethan reminds me everyday why it is so important to live in the moment.

When I am not teaching English, you can find me on my yoga mat (I am a certified yoga teacher), hiking or running on one of the many amazing trails or beaches, reading, or spending time with my beloved family and friends.

I feel so grateful to have found this amazing school and look forward to the adventures and memories ahead of me.
