Jenna Newburn

My name is Jenna Newburn, the 6th grade Humanities and 9th grade World History teacher at SBMS. I grew up in Redondo Beach and moved to Santa Barbara to attend UCSB in 2004. I graduated in 2008 with a BA in Global Studies and Spanish. Embracing the “carpe diem” lifestyle, I then traveled around New Zealand and Indonesia for a year surfing and experiencing cultures very different from our own. While away, I earned a certification to teach yoga and gained a wider perspective of the world we live in.

I recently earned my teaching credential in social studies, and have been teaching 7th and 8th grade social studies at Dunn Middle School in the Santa Ynez Valley. On my days away from school I love to surf, hike, practice yoga, run, camp, grow tomatoes and pretty much anything else outdoors. I look forward to sharing my love of these hobbies, as well as my love for social studies and language arts with the 6th grade community at SBMS. Learning from each of you who happen to cross my path is what I also look forward to this fall.
