I coordinate support and accommodation for the students with learning differences.

I have taught at SBMS for...as many years as Dick and Dave – I can’t remember – oh, yeah...17 years!

I’m a third generation, native Californian from an agricultural family.  I graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1977 with a dual major in Physical Education and Special Education.  I taught in  Arizona and Texas for a total of 12 years.

After returning to California, I was an educational therapist for 2 years before coming to SBMS to start the Learning Skills Program.  I served on the board of the Santa Barbara Chapter of the Orton Dyslexia Society, the Southern California Consortium of Orton Dyslexia Societies, and am on the advisory board of the Dyslexia Awareness and Resource Center.  In that capacity, I helped develop and coordinated The Vision and The Task Annual Conference for ten years.

I’m most grateful for my step-son, Jim.  Lessons I learned raising him as a teenager were more valuable than most education classes.  Despite my mistakes, he is a fabulous man.  I cherish my relationship with him.

6 years ago, Luna, a black Labrador/Catahoula mix came into my life via my best friends in Arkansas.  Together we explore local beaches and trails, and participate in dog agility.
