Let's Give Some Gratitude!

Here in Santa Barbara, we have so much to be thankful for - and here at Santa Barbara Middle School, we have even more. As a school, we appreciate all of the families who have, for over 35 years, entrusted their children to us during this pivotal time in a young person's life. We are deeply grateful to the 1,100 donors who have helped us realize our dream of securing a long-term home so that we may provide this unique and relevant educational experience to our students of today and tomorrow.

As Head of School, I am grateful to the teachers, staff, students, and trustees who make our school the vibrant, innovative, and dynamic learning community that it is. And as a father, husband, and friend, I give thanks to my family for providing me with the opportunity to serve this school that instills self-confidence, resilience, and creative thinking in its students.

We have accomplished so much together, and I am honored to be part of this exceptionally caring and generous community.  As we move forward, I would like to invite you to join me in giving back to the school that continues to give so much to our children and families.

Like other independent schools, SBMS depends on contributions to its Annual Fund for crucial budgetary support. Tuition covers only about 90% of the school's annual expenses, leaving a difference of about $2,500 per student between tuition and the actual cost of running our program. The Annual Fund helps bridge this gap by paying for general operating expenses, strategic reserves, and site and program initiatives. In addition, your Annual Fund contributions have helped SBMS to establish one of the most robust financial aid programs in Santa Barbara, with over $500,000 offered to families each year.

I hope that 100% of our parents, trustees and faculty will contribute to the Annual Fund and help us raise the $175,000 needed to bridge the tuition gap and offer an unparalleled educational experience to our students. Every gift is valued, and I encourage you to give as generously as you can.

With kind regards and gratitude,

Brian McWilliams
Head of School
