Introductory Spanish 7

The curriculum is based on a proven methodology affording students the opportunity to understand and apply a language system. Thus, students learn new material in relevant contexts with rich opportunities for practical application via group discussions and independent work. Reinforcement activities and weekly assessments keep students on track to meet the California standards. The emphasis of this introductory course is to provide students with a framework for language acquisition via multiple intelligence including individual instruction, reading, writing, listening cooperative learning, drama, music, singing, and art activities. The goal is to lower the affective filter for increased comprehensible input. Skills include speaking and listening in Spanish, awareness and understanding of other cultures, interrelating with other disciplines and gathering information, developing insights into the nature of language and culture, and participating in multilingual communities at home and abroad.

Students will learn salutations, numbers, order food, days of the week, months, seasons, weather, telling time, identifying classroom objects, identifying clothing, colors, names, telling who you are, telling where you are from, what you study, identifying family members, and describing your house. Students will study the cultures and traditions of Spain, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
