Monday, October 20, 8:30 am — Saturday, October 25, 12:00 pm

To main letter | To itinerary | To 8th Grade Update

Mark your calendars for HOMECOMING, which will take place on Saturday, October 25, at 12 pm also on the SBMS Campus. We will have volunteers that day to help direct parking on the field. Thank you!

Instructions for parking on the field:
Proceed up the Saint Anthony's Campus main entrance, adjacent to Pueblo Street, and drive up the road past a dirt parking lot and paved auxiliary road, both on your left. After passing the Retreat Center (on your right), make a left turn towards the SBMS Campus. You will see new outdoor basketball courts to your left. Pass through one open gate before making a sharp left on to a gravel road. Drive down the gravel road and on to the field where you may park your car.

Special Update for 8th Grade Students & Families:

Only three weeks until.......wait, it's shorter than that.....two weeks....no.....ONE WEEK!!

Here is a copy of the message sent to all 8th grade families at the end of September:

  • The fall colors on Figueroa Mtn will be breathtaking (as will the ride UP Figueroa Mtn.)
  • The views will be awe-inspiring from Refugio Pass and Camino Cielo (and the ride UP there will inspire some awe, also.)
  • We are biking and BOBing, packing and pulling all our gear in our BOB trailers. Anyone know what BOB stands for?

For a journey of this nature, we need to be ready. And it can’t happen all in the last week. Here is what every 8th grader needs to know, and what they need to do.

Pre-departure 8th grade calendar:

  • October 16th, the next Thursday:
All students bring bikes to school and their packed duffle bag. They will be given a BOB trailer,we will load the BOBs and hook 'em up, and go for a brief on-campus training ride. Students take bags home for final packing, leaving bikes and BOBs here!

Voila! We are ready to roll on Monday, the 20th.

To the journey,
Jim and the 8th grade trip team

Fall Trip Letter

Autumn is here and once again we are heading out on our all-school Fall Expedition. The theme of our fall journey is Teamwork, and it is a very important part of the SBMS tradition. It is an opportunity for the new students to bond with our school family and for the older students to develop their roles as mentors and helpers.

We will be centering our fall journey around the Santa Ynez Valley, one of the prime bicycling destinations in the world. This is a magnificent time to bike in the Santa Ynez Valley and the surrounding mountains as the trees and vineyards take on their autumn hues. We will bike through vineyards, apple orchards, and farms as the fall crops are being harvested. Then we will bike along the “Dragon’s Spine” to Sage Hill campground for our final campfire. On Saturday, we will shuttle everyone back to Santa Barbara to ride proudly into Homecoming.

This year the 8th grade will be riding self-contained with BOB trailers in preparation for our End-of- the-Year journey. On Tuesday they will peel off from the 6th, 7th, and 9th grades for a two-day journey up and over Figueroa Mountain and later rejoin their schoolmates as we all start our climb up the back side of Refugio.

The days at this time of year will most likely be warm, but the nights can be quite cold. Please be sure to follow the equipment list (PDF document for printing).

If your child takes any medication, please fill out the Authorization for Dispensing Medication form to the SBMS office by Friday, October 10. Double check that your child has his/her medication when departing for the trip. If you will be out of town during our trip, please let the office know how to reach you in case of an emergency.

On the day of our departure, Monday, October 20, your child should arrive ready to ride with a sack lunch, helmet, gloves, hydration pack and/or 2 water bottles. Please note that you should drop your child at the SB Mission parking lot on departure day.
