Two families enter the strand at Montana de Oro and wander north along the shore to the mouth of Morro Bay, while two other families put in with their flotilla of kayaks near Heroes Camp and paddle across the estuary. Reunited at the towering dunes, they soar before trading places. Kayaks paddle back to camp with new paddlers, as morning sailors follow footprint and sand dollar path south to Montana de Oro.
