Student Autonomy

Diamond Time begins at 8:15 a.m., offering a variety of optional enrichment activities before the school day officially starts at 9:15 a.m. During this time, students have the flexibility to choose how they start their morning. Some may use the time to complete assignments in the homework labs, meet one-on-one with a teacher, or get creative in music and art spaces. Others may head to the courts for a game of basketball or take advantage of off-campus activities like surfing and beach volleyball.

Designed with adolescent development in mind, Diamond Time supports students in starting their day with intention while aligning with current brain research and sleep studies. Although participation is optional, it mirrors the spirit of the SBMS electives program by fostering a culture of exploration and self-discovery. It provides students with the freedom to engage in activities that spark curiosity, promote well-being, and encourage lifelong learning.
