SBMS Students at Santa Barbara International Film Festival 2023

SBMS Teen Press at SBIFF

A group of 14 students from Santa Barbara Middle School embarked on a media journey of a lifetime. The students, also known as the SBMS Teen Press, will spend 10 days at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival interviewing some of the most influential people in the film industry.

Santa Barbara Middle School Teen Press was originally formed in 2007 to cover the 22nd Santa Barbara Film Festival, and has continued to grow in popularity since them. Among other things, they have covered the inauguration of President Barack Obama in Washington D.C. and the South by South West Festival in Austin, Texas.
The team is comprised of 7th, 8th and 9th graders who know that they have to keep up with their academics in addition to their reporting work.

This year, students have interviewed Cate Blanchett, Angela Bassett, Emily Vancamp, and Luke Wilson, to name just a few. Students will continue to interview on the red carpet throughout the film festival. More interviews and videos will be posted on the SBMS Teen Press YouTube Channel.

Thank you to David, Sophia and Amanda for leading this wonderful initiative, and we look forward to seeing more interviews.
