SBMS Cares Resources

When the going gets rough, our community always shows up. We’re working to highlight ways for our school families to collectively make a difference for those who are currently facing huge challenges. Help us build this list by emailing Phoebe with suggestions on ways to get involved, or to let us know who could use a helping hand.

  1. Buy a gift card to use when your favorite restaurant reopens!
While many restaurants are struggling right now, we are highlighting a few with direct connections to SBMS in the hope our community can join together to support.
    • The Daisy - this wonderful local restaurant, that is owned and run by SBMS 8th-grade parents Carmen and Dominic Shiach, is currently closed but has gift cards for sale!
    • Bouchon - This SBMS alum family-owned restaurant has generously supported SBMS every year for over a decade.
    • Acme Hospitality - Owned by an SBMS alumni family, Acme has launched an Emergency Assistance for Restaurant Workers to support their team while their restaurants are closed.
    • Reach out to your favorite local restaurants or follow them on social media to learn more about how they are requesting community support at this time.

  1. Sign up for local food delivery services
Support local farmers and sustainable fishing practices through these services. Some are even offering home or neighborhood delivery!
    • School Food Box has been a favorite produce box of SBMS families and has local pick-up locations through-out Santa Barbara.
    • Get Hooked Seafood is helping our local fishing community stay employed and provides only the freshest of sustainable seafood.
    • Roots Organic Farms has CSA boxes available and is seeking volunteers to become neighborhood network hubs, so neighbors and friends can pick up fresh produce weekly. Contact Jacob to learn more.
    • Chef Justin West is providing deliveries of local meat and produce, combined with recipes for the whole family to enjoy.
    • Tamai Farms is delivering locally, and word is their strawberries are among the best in town!
    • Cooking more at home and notice your knives could use a sharpening? SBMS team member Scott is your guy! Send him an email, and he’ll return your knives as good as new.
  1. Support locally-owned small businesses
Many local small businesses have had to temporarily close, and need our help to reopen when they’re able.
    • Chaucer’s Books is taking online orders for in-store no-contact pick-ups. Keep reading during these times and buy your books locally!
    • Paradise Found has opened an online shop with curbside pick-up and is also selling gift cards while closed.
    • A-Frame Surf Shop is a longtime supporter of SBMS and is offering curbside pick-up for all your surf needs. Call or email Sam (aframesam@yahoo.com) with order requests.
    • Hazard’s Cycle Sports is owned and run by SBMS Bike Monkey guru Bruce Davis, and is open to keep your bike in riding shape.
    • Mountain Air Sports is locally owned and has supplied Santa Barbara with outdoor recreation equipment for over 40 years. They’re selling online gift cards while closed.
  1. Volunteer, Donate or Purchase to support organizations in need
There’s lots to do to support those in our community working to make a difference!
    • Bucket Brigade is looking for volunteers who can sew masks for the community. They’ll provide fabric, the pattern, and even some fun prizes!
    • Zoomers to Boomers is activating Gen Z volunteers to help make home deliveries for quarantined seniors. If someone in your household qualifies, consider signing up to help so that those most at risk can stay at home!
    • Wilderness Youth Project is asking for community support to continue running their youth programs, and also just launched a virtual Nature Mentor Program!
    • SB Bike is asking for your out-grown, over-loved, used bike to be donated to their Bici Centro shop! All bike donations are tax-deductible and will support SB Bike’s work to promote bicycling as safe transportation in Santa Barbara.
